There is the mailing list which is the primary way for communication - it has been from the beginning and still is today.
Then there are alternatives like gitter for chat, and stackoverflow. As others have said nabble was "just" a facade on top of the mailing list, but it has turned really bad the last year or so, so we have stopped using it. Nabble has been removed from our website.
