Just want to throw our experience with this topic.

We use PetaSAN.  Its a ceph based storage that includes NFS and iSCSI
gateways...  Running on three nodes and all administered via a gui.  No
issues and using RBD (ceph) as primary storage.  PetaSAN is open source as
well.
