GitHub user notdrowningworking created a discussion: Choose between Backup and
Recovery providers at Domain level allowing option for CS customers between
Adhoc & SLA Backups

Currently the B&R framework is configured and set at the Zone level, and you
can only have 1 backup provider per zone.

This seems somewhat restrictive. Wouldn't it be great to give a customer the
choice between a free B&R solution and one that is fully managed by the CSP and
is hands off?

Would it be possible to request a feature enhancement to add the zone config
setting `backup.framework.provider.plugin` to the Domain also?

Having the provider configured in the Zone could be the default for any domain
that does not have the provider configured. If a customer top-level Domain
contains a different provider this could take precedence. (Obviously the Zone
would need to have configuration settings to support 2 B&R providers).

This would allow the CSP to offer 2 Backup options to tenants.

I imagine there may be challenges running potentially 2 backup providers on the
same host and cluster in the same zone. However no single customer tenant could
ever have 2 different B&R providers. A customer's top level domain would
contain the `backup.framework.provider.plugin` if it is different to the Zone
setting then this B&R framework is used, any subdomains would not be allowed to
have this setting configured and would inherit the domain above.

The root domain would inherit the Zone `backup.framework.provider.plugin`.

Another option might be to have another Zone setting that allows more than 1
B&R provider to be configured, such as `backup.framework.provider.multiplugin`
that allows only max 2 providers, eg. `veeam, kboss` or `veeam, nas` or
`networker, nas`. Then the Domain setting `backup.framework.provider.plugin`
must only contain a plugin from the Zone
`backup.framework.provider.multiplugin`.

**Use Case**
At this stage we are planning to implement Veeam KVM, which will be an SLA
fully managed backup solution for all our CloudStack customer tenants. However
we have customers who would like the choice of opting for a simpler and cheaper
integrated B&R (either the NAS or KBOSS) which they can control and manage
themselves instead of paying a higher premium for us to manage it for them,
which is less flexible. In our case we could offer NAS or KBOSS as the Adhoc
user managed B&R that has no license fees.
