the only way to access XMLDB

The only way to work with xmldb i found is in xmldb-block:
xmldb datasource (pseudo-proto) to request
    - but this one miss namespaces, since there are no xmlns in xpath.
xmldb transformer to xupdate
    - told both to support xmlns and to do not

Are there any other solutions ?
