Ok, so start by copying blocks.properties to local.blocks.properties, and do a clean build and make sure everything works. Then go through and remove the more exotic blocks, such as chaperon, midi, portal, faces, etc. Be careful to meet any dependencies - for example, removing lucene but leaving in querybean will break because querybean needs lucene.
