hmm, I didn't know that (RE: ap- vs. ap2-).  What I do know is that I
built ap-php and I have a working php module for apache2.  Heck when
ap-php finishes building, it gives you suggestions for configuring both
apache 1.x and 2.x to use it.

Maybe you should try it out,
