'man patch' and 'man diff' for the exact details on what patch and diff do. http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/pkgsrc/ This guide is half about using pkgsrc, and half about developing for pkgsrc. There's probably more resources that you could use, but that's what springs to mind first.
