Spring 2.5.6 should work for almost everything. Context refresh/close events are different in Spring3 which causes some issues, but if all you really do is startup your context and let the app run, it should work find. We have a spring2 profile in CXF, but we have tests that fail with it due to the changes in the refresh/close code.
