I know of no smooth workaround for this because most checksums work not on the
logical data items, but on their underlying representation.

This is a very high priority feature for the next release of Daffodil 3.2.0 as
everyone is hitting this limitation now for CRCs, checksums, and parity
calculations when cybersecurity filters want to redact data.

There will be a design note about this and how it will work, and your feedback
on that will be most helpful. When it comes out we'll be sure to post a link to
it here to gather feedback.

Subject: Checksum assistance/example

Hello,

I am seeking advice on how to generate a checksum. I saw there is an open story
for this https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DAFFODIL-2221, but I wanted to
know if there is a workaround for now to generate one.

Thank you,

Kyle
