Well, I'd reserve "very bad" for some more serious issue ;), but I'd
agree that is pretty inconvenient, at least.

Sure. Depends on your budget for bribery ;). Just kidding, of course.

In general: Yes, I'd like to fix that. No, I don't really like to touch
the existing implementation, which is full of such weirdnesses, but
re-implement it from scratch. Yes, I'd support every developer who's
willing to have a look at this :)
