OK, I eventually found what's going on. Before adding the view, I had used "Tools -> Table Filter" and had selected only the stuff on the public schema selected. I had assumed that by having the check mark on the public schema, everything added to it would also be checked. After expanding the public schema in the Table Filter I saw that this doesn't happen. So making sure it is checked worked, duh!
