Looks like I was messing up and deleteing the workspace directory deposited
into the working directory where I started LDAP studio.

If I do not delete this directory then the connections persiste.  Doh!

But there is a workaround. The connections are stored in

<LS-home>workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.apache.directory.ldapstudio.browser.core/connections.xml


So you could save and restore this file.

BTW: The password is currently stored as plaintext in connections.xml :(
