The easiest way is to use the ldapseach command-line command and craft it similar to:

(using the Linux version of the OpenLDAP command syntax below)

ldapsearch -x -LLL -h your.ldapserver.dns.name -p your.ldap.server.port.number -D cn=an.account.in.your.apacheDS -W (will prompt for password) -Z -b (the.search.base.where.your.user.accounts.are.located "(objectclass=*)"

Once you get this working you can script it and put it into a crontab or scheduled task and pass an alert to your email, pager or etc when it is down.

Hi !

the easiest way to check if your server is running is to use Studio :

https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__directory.apache.org_studio_users-2Dguide_2.0.0.v20200411-2DM15_ldap-5Fbrowser_gettingstarted-5Fcreate-5Fconnection.html&d=DwIC-g&c=eLbWYnpnzycBCgmb7vCI4uqNEB9RSjOdn_5nBEmmeq0&r=Pa2DB88IW_s2TyLfktHtWA&m=O5fTdaZJTyWggYsUimumueSH40o7jQdiqDwJb1V5epI&s=HUjri3VH_voJvoMPJTsN-jnIMNXwPq0jVVaK5SSq2dU&e=
then open the connection and you should be able to broiwse the tree.

Hello, Apache Directory team!

I am trying to start with Apache DS and have absolutely 0 background. All seems pretty good, thanks for putting the guide together. However, I can't find a step or section that would explain how to run the server and just test that it is working, that I got it on my machine. Something like "Hello, world" for Apache DS. Maybe you would like to add it as well?

Cheers,
Turkhan.
