Yes, now I remember. Sometime ago I have had a problem concerning the permissions on a FAT32 partition. The tar method is a solution or perhaps also to change the folders and subfolders permissions (chmod -R 777) using a Linux distro. This last method is faster and I have tried it successfully to access my files under Windows, but on an EXT2 partition.
