We have positive experiences with running felix on the Intel Mote 2 (ARM CPU,
32 MB flash, 32MB RAM).
We have tried following VM's:
- blackdown 1.3.1 (with 16MB relative large and project is abandoned)
- JamVM version 1.3.0 (has URL handler problem: http://felix.apache.org/site/faq.html + it crashed a
lot (we probably had a C library problem) )
- phoneME Advanced
Of those three VM's, we got the best stability and performance with phoneME. It supports java 1.4
(Connected Device Configuration), just in time compilation and has a footprint of 2.8MB (statically
linked). It can run felix right out of the box and does not have the URL handler problem.
It's only deficit: they don't have released binary builds for ARM yet, so you have to compile it
yourself.
Greetings,
Bart

David,
I think this is great that you wrote about your experiences...we should
document these types of experiences on our web site.
I think we should create a "Felix and alternative VMs" web page on our
site, perhaps yours could be the first contribution. Sound good?
Perhaps other people could contribute other experiences too.
Thanks.

Dear all,
I have written up some of my experience in running Apache Felix on the
UNC90 platform (ARM9 chip, 16 MB flash, 32 MB RAM). You can find this
document here:

I'd be very interested in your comments or additional questions.
Kind regards,
