FYI the maven plugins that generate these daemon installers are being overhauled to use the Tanuki wrapper instead of the jakarta daemon wrappers. This effort is also aiming to allow for the option of having multiple instances of the daemon product off the same software installation. It's also much more formal about where things should go according to accepted file system standards in UNIX and Windows land.
The changes were initiated by Chris over at the Directory project. I think the experience with generated installers is much better and more stable using Tanuki now.
