I know Spring and the new JSR330 (Dependency Injection For Java) specs support it, using a notation similar to what I mentioned in the first post. I suspect what they're doing is scanning classes for the annotations they want, and if they find any unknown annotations, recurse into checking the annotations on them, and so on, and so on until they're out of annotations to check.
