Hi From what I can tell, the compiler plugin is configured for source and target 1.4 compilation whereas the Java API check (Animal Sniffer plugin( is not configured.
I think this is an old requirement from the days before Java 8 to be able to run this bundle on JavaME platforms. Even today, I would be conservative and just go up to at most Java 6.
