I hope these questions aren't too simple!
If you use http://ipreg.red.net/cgi-bin/freeipdb/index.cgi, I see if you
Block Dump RIPE Format, it expects you to have selected a region first or
it gives an error. It would be useful to catch the missing field before
passing the user an error.
If you make an assignment off that page, it makes the assignment in the
database immediately, even though you have not selected the confirm or
cancel option on the next page. If you select cancel, an error is returned
Error in ipdb_lib.pl in main::clearblock at line 431 Could not get holdtime
for region You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that
corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near
'WHERE IPDB.ID = 93 AND IPDB.REGION = REGIONTABLE.ID' at line 1
though you don't get an error if you select Confirm Allocation.
I am still getting my head around when to use region vs block vs
allocation, but I take it allocation is what you get from the RIR, region
can be root or not, and two or more regions can have the same block. A
block is just some address space/mask combo?
I see only one level of hierarcy in regions... so you can't do the
following for keeping summarisation tidy:
router is a region with some blocks
all routers in a POP are a higher level of region
all POPs in a country are an even higher region
Does that make sense?
Would I be advised to delve into the source code as a new starter to get to
grips with freeipdb as there seems like info on the web page for newbies...
Good idea though and I am sure it will make out lives easier :-)
