I think your configuration is correct. I implemented it in an geoext example and it aligns as you would except. (I did have to remove the height:100, because it did effect the rendering). Maybe you have some rogue css rule that is messing with your alignment. might also be why the height attribute is not changing anything.

Hi Antonio, migrating to GeoExt 2 may be a good suggestion, but in
this application I must have an horizontal bar. The issue is aligning
all buttons and icons inside the bar itself, as you can see in the
picture, some of them don't even show completely.
