Tony I think it is great that you are pushing the boundaries and trying out the most difficult ways of doing things but wouldn't it be good to just do the easy thing sometimes?
I guess i will have to upgrade my ubuntu at work to see if i have similar problems installing and using LibreOffice there. I had two entries, one with lenny main non-free, one with experimental. I made that into one entry (and added contrib) and it's getting everything now.
