Does this sound loss occur during creation of the presentation in the
native file format (odp)?

Can't understand the purpose of using impress to created a spreadsheet
file? Would be more interesting to know if audio data is lost when
impress is saved as calc file. Does this occur?

If your customer/colleague using m$, continue to use m$ yourself. Only
consider to use LO if your recipient is equally willing to try LO as
well. No point sending content in DVD if your recipient is able to
view only CD-ROM...

Not a forum, but a mailing list; anyway, suggest using digest-mode subscription.

This is weak; conversely, you should be writing to m$ to complain that
m$ word is unable to open an open document format file without data
loss, as an example.

Not sure what a gui-free presenter is but maybe try LaTeX beamer class?
