I have noticed a problem with compatibility opening some .doc and .docx files with graphics (bitmap and other). I have not used word since word 6 for dos, so am making some assumptions here. Word allows a graphic to be larger than the page dimensions and allows you to mask of the areas you don't want (like placing a window over the graphic so you only see one region, not really cropping as the graphic is unchanged. Wordpro did the same. When you import the .doc[x] LO removes the mask and shrinks the graphic to fit the page. I have some examples, is it a bug or outside the capabilities of LO and hence a feature request. Definitely required for compatibility. And for a bit of a comparison, google docs totally screws the .doc up.
