I've created a bug report (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39032). If anyone has something useful to contribute, please do so. The report does reference this discussion thread, so you don't have to repeat everything you've posted here. However, I think it would be useful to add a comment to the bug report stating your Operating System and LibreOffice version (and whether or not the file crashes).
