Hi :) Duplicates add to the original reports just as a good comment would.
Triaging to link reports together appropriately is a really good thing to do and it's a good way into project, to begin understanding devs and coding issues. There is not always time to hunt through bug-reports to see if there is already a similar one. Anyway it can be difficult for a non-dev to know whether a slightly different thing is related or not. It's much better to have a duplicate report than miss out on knowing a problem exists. There is seldom time to do things exactly the right perfect way first time but there are often opportunities to build on what was done first time.
