Hello,

I have a document that contains a cover page, abstract, toc and the actual
text content chapters. Technically the first content chapters begin from
page 4, but I have defined the page numbering in the document so that it
restarts from the toc page making the first text chapter page appear as page
2. However, the toc shows the first chapter to begin from page 4. Is there a
way to make the toc to show the correct altered page numbering?

I guess, you have changed the numbers via 'offset'. That's the wrong way. You have to use a manual page break via Insert -> Manual Break. You have to set the page style (it may be the same as before). Then the checkbox 'change page number' is enabled and you can check it and enter the new starting number.

If you want to do it later on, go to the first paragraph (it may be a heading) of the page, where the page number should be changed. Then use tab 'textflow' from Format->Paragraph. If the first thing on the page is a table, you find it in the table properties. If the first thing is an index, you should delete the index, enter a blank line and insert the index after the blank line. And then set the new page number in the properties of the blank line.

Kind regards
Regina
