Yeah, sure!  I can't even stop these from appearing in my mailbox even though 
when I try to "unsubscribe" the mailer daemon tells me I'm unknown!!  What a 
load of crap!!!

"Why" doesn't really matter to the end-user.  It is all about corporate 
stupidity.  LibreOffice is the now, OpenOffice is the then.

Yes, completely.  And the application will be comfortably the same

Yes.  LibreOffice has more developers and just more bugfixes.  It is the same,
