Thanks Jay, I was able to completely remove it with synaptic, which I've never used before.
However, on re installation, properly this time, I've only got menu shortcuts for calc, impress, and printer administration, so there appears to be some bug still in the debian-menus-desktop-integration which is not populating the menu properly in squeeze.
