Steve, Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, by some reason, I do have different settings by default on ubuntu, and when I do what you indicate my figures get the size and shape of the cells. Regards,

I tried on both my openSUSE and kids Win7, 3.5 line of LO. If I make a table and define the cell sizes and then go Import>Picture>from File the picture is not distorted in the cell. It fills the cell until it touches the frame without changing proportion (shrinks to fit). If I open explorer or dolphin and drag the image and drop into the table cell it fills the cell as above (shrinks to fit).
