Hi Alex I needed some delay to check what software my friend had used : it was Pages , and I was using LO 3.5 Thx to Miroslaw’s advice, I've installed LO 3.6.4.3 and the problem has disappeared. I now can read the Mac docs. Thanks to you, and thx also to everybody that has spent time to reply to me Bruno

There are/were known bugs in both OOo, and now presumably AOO/LO with "DOC" files produced by some Mac applications, most notably due to codepage issues.
