I'll be damned - I don't know where to set "Device" in vista, but taking your hint, instead of "Export as PDF" I chose "Export." With that I saw that the file format was defaulted to .xml. I changed this to pdf, and lo! Though the chosen foreground color doesn't show in the odt. file, it does show in the pdf. The color toolbar is indeed buggy, no?
