Hi :)
Wow!!  I had no idea!  I had assumed that every company still made it's own
proprietary charger that would be the only thing able to charge it's devices.
I managed to get a camera that has a fairly unique mini-usb but most seem to
have a very standard one.
Regards from
Tom :)

Every mobile device is required to have a USB connection for power.  It
doesn't have to be used for anything else but generally is.  I don't
know about keyboards though.  However, keyboards are supported via Blutooth.

According to some European regulation, all devices must be chargeable
from USB power.  This is to avoid the proliferation of proprietary
adapters in landfill.  While many have a built in USB connector, some,
such as Apple use a cable with USB plug on one end.  Thanks to that
regulation, I have adapters that came with phone, tablet, camera and
other and they all are interchangeable.  In addition, I can pick up a
cheap cable to charge from a computer or inexpensive car charger.  Years
ago, a car charger for a cell phone was expensive and limited to
specific models.  Now, you just buy one with a USB outlet and you're
good.  Newer cars may even have them built in..  There are even USB
charging outlets on some passenger aircraft.
