Mendeley already has an Ubuntu plugin to interface LibreOffice. It seems they initially had some problems with this plug-in, but according to this thread http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/1384344-mendeley-plugin-for-libreoffice-4-1-4- it now works as advertised. I may be wrong, because I am not a Mendeley user (my personal preference is Zotero) but from what I read the plug-in appears to be part of the Mendeley Desktop package, or at least available from the Mendeley "Tools -> Install LibreOffice/OpenOffice Plugin", see: http://www.mendeley.com/features/reference-manager/ Hope this helps.
