Set your "other options" in the find/replace box to enable regular expressions
All Kanji characters, paste the following into search. ([一-龯]+) All Hiragana or Katakana characters paste the following into search. ([ぁ-んァ-ン]+) note this 2nd one has 2 unicode ranges... you can reduce this to search for only one. But the site I copied these ranges from lists Hiragana and Katakana together. I presume the first is Hiragana, but I've really no clue. If you're working with text, one of these might be familiar. In the replace section, paste $1 and while the cursor is active in the replace box, select format.
