The expiry date of the certificates wasn't the issue. I mange many SSL
certificates, so I'm well aware of the issues with SSL certs expiring.

In my original post to the mailing list in 2007, I showed that my SSL
certs that SGE was claiming were no longer valid were actually valid for
another 11 months. I posted that message September 7, 2007, and here's
the validity information from that cert (cut-and-pasted from my original
post in '07):

        Validity
            Not Before: Aug  8 14:30:50 2007 GMT
            Not After : Aug  7 14:30:50 2008 GMT

SGE started complaining about the certs one months after they were generated, 
and 11 months before they'd actually expire.
