Hello,

first question - you said you've got OpenMPI installed on all nodes. Is that the Red Hat packaged version, or did you compile it yourself?

If that is the Red Hat packaged version, that would mean that you would need some way of passwordless communication between the nodes - host-based ssh or rsh. The Red Hat packaged version is not compiled with SGE bindings (no tight integration).

I would actually compile OpenMPI with tight integration (it's the --with-sge flag; look in the OpenMPI docs, especially the FAQ - http://www.open-mpi.org/faq/, specifically http://www.open-mpi.org/faq/?category=building#build-rte-sge and http://www.open-mpi.org/faq/?category=running#run-n1ge-or-sge). That then means that it uses qrsh to connect to the nodes, and as such gets you around having to set up host-based authentication.

Hello,

I am trying to learn about grids so I have installed a small test grid on RHEL6
systems using Son of Grid Engine 8.1.5. Everything seemed to go OK with the
installation using mostly the defaults. However, now that I have started to run
some tests I have realized that I really want to use the orte (Open Run-Time
Environment) parallel environment. So here is where I am getting stuck. I
already have openmpi installed on all of the execution nodes but the Oracle
documentation is confusing me in part becasue I don't know exactly where Son of
Grid Engine differs from the Oracle Grid Engine documentation. Some of my
questions are: Did I need to install it as root instead of a non privledged
user? Do I need to configure ssh access for the grid on all of the nodes? How
do I add an orte queue (the Oracle docs look different than the interface I
have)? Do I need to have openmpi installed on the master node even if it isn't
an execution node? etc. I don't want to bother everyone on th!

at some documentation that might spell this part out more clearly for me.

Thanks,
