I have taken a look at the code, [this](https://github.com/apache/hop/blob/b6f1dfeafe875db1d5e69081e3aec9c1da7b21d3/core/src/main/java/org/apache/hop/core/vfs/HopVfs.java#L129) is where we register the supported filetypes. hdfs currently isn't included. It would require some extra development to enable hdfs. While the codechange might be minimal, testing it will require some more work.
