Personally, I'm a big fan of link flag: hard-code the path-to-lib into the 
binary and be done with it. However, the downside is, what if the lib moves? Or 
the binary has to run on a different machine? Then, the canonical solution is 
to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH and have the binary pick up the path to lib at run-time. 
There are pros and cons of either approach...
