I'm having the same problem with php 4.4.1. SSI which includes php doesn't work with either Apache 2.0.54 or Apache 2.0.55. It sometimes works with 2.0.54, but also sometimes segfaults. It always segfaults with 2.0.55. I just submitted a php bug report for 2.0.54 and php 4.4.1. There are numerous existing bug reports for SSI + php using virtual(), but the SSI files causing problems for us don't use virtual(). Good luck!
