> Subject: [EMAIL PROTECTED] OS Env variables - TMP

I've been following your thread... Yours is the classic problem that arises
when you need to configure apache dynamically at run-time. As you've probably
realised by now, all apache does at the config stage is to read in a long text
string (ie, httpd.conf). There is very limited opportunity to define anything
dynamically and as for logical constructs, forget it... :-(

The solution a lot of people use is to write a script (eg, Perl) to generate
the config file and then call this script at the start of apachectl (eg,
/path/to/config_script > /path/to/httpd.conf). You then have the full power of
your scripting language to import environment variables, modify them, apply
conditional clauses and you can use loops to cut down on repetition.

It's a bit of an effort to convert from a static to dynamic config initially,
but once it's working you'll never look back...

Rgds,
Owen Boyle
