i have the latest apache 2.2.x running on a freebsd 6.2 box. THe root
directory was changed to /usr/smb/some-directory rather than the default root
dir of /usr/local/www/data to accomidate the use of samba 3. In short the
owner wants the ability to drag & drop files onto the web server from his
windows desktop using windows shares. the server is on a internal network so
security isnt so much of an issue. Anyway He also wanted the root dir to be
password protected...for some reason .htaccess files dont seem to be read by
apache when outside of /usr/local

is there a way to cure this while keeping the web server root dir of
/usr/smb/somediretory ??

thank you
