Thanks for your help, solprovider.

HTTPD.EXE won't shut down when I turn my computer off. And I see no mechanism 
by which I could properly shut it down. I keep having to do an "end task" on 
it. Google search on this problem indicates that Apache2 simply isn't right for 
Windows98se. Hence I want to uninstall it.

But I did manage to uninstall it myself, finally.

It was part of a WAMP package. Therefore, Apache did not show up in my list of 
programs. But the WAMP package as a whole did appear on that list. So I just 
opted to uninstall that WAMP package. No more HTTPD shut-off problems now.

I suppose if I ever commit to running a server it will be on a more 
contemporary OS. I do have an XP/Ubuntu machine in the living room. I just hate 
using that one 'cause it's not at a nice work-desk.
