You could try disabling some things: ./configure --disable-XXX

Thanks for this answer. Then, of course, I'd have to figure out what to
--disable-* in order to avoid acquiring a dependency on, say, libkrb5.
I'd be looking for the *effective* configure options in order to know
what to deconfigure.
