Best solution would be to have a different rule in front of your other rule: (And you don't need the P, in fact it might cause loops) For example: RewriteRule ^/foo$ /abc/ers [L] RewriteRule ^/foo/(.*) /abc/$1 The L flag cause apache to ignore subsequent rules.
