no, not really...


so i tried adding:

<Directory /var/www>
 Options +ExecCGI
 AddHandler cgi-script .cgi
</Directory>

to /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

and

  sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

then when

   wget localhost
--2011-01-14 01:32:09--  http://localhost/
Resolving localhost... ::1, 127.0.0.1
Connecting to localhost|::1|:80... failed: Connection refused.
Connecting to localhost|127.0.0.1|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 403 Forbidden
2011-01-14 01:32:09 ERROR 403: Forbidden.

and the log says:

[Fri Jan 14 01:32:54 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.3] Options
ExecCGI is off in this directory: /var/www/index.cgi
