This is the snip from line I specify to apr-util's ./configure to
enable ldap:
``--with-ldap-include=$incdir --with-ldap-lib=$libdir --with-ldap=ldap_r ''
> mod_ssl/2.2.17 compiled against Server: Apache/2.2.17, Library:

Did you test it with a file based login?

If you get a Segmentation fault, there must be a way to produce a core dump:
Generally:
Set a CoreDumpDirectory in httpd.conf:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mpm_common.html#coredumpdirectory
Assuming you're on Linux:
put `ulimit -c unlimited` in apachectl
Or a core_pattern via sysctl, see core(5) for more info.
on FreeBSD:
put `limit coredumpsize unlimited` in apachectl
See core(5) how to set with sysctl a pattern for kern.corefile.
For Solaris see coreadm(1M) - which controls both.
I think I should paste this in a wiki.
