I'm looking for a VERY SIMPLE single value authentication module (like BASIC
Authentication, but only a USER ID, no prompt for PASSWORD) for Apache 2.2.x.
User IDs that will be used are going to be long numeric transaction ids
provided by an external e-commerce site.

I'm willing to use a forms-based or dialog-based prompt for user identity; it
just needs to prompt for a SINGLE data item, not a user/password PAIR.

This need NOT be supported in .htaccess files (not in use).

I would prefer to avoid the overhead of a DBM-based scheme; simply a
well-protected flat file is the best for my needs here, although the one other
variable, an EXPIRATION date on the transaction identifier, if implemented in
some existing module, would possibly cause me to gravitate to something more
complex in order to make use of said expiration date.

Since this need is quite time-dependent, I'd prefer to avoid the overhead of
developing an application-specific module.

Suggestions?
