Not only Apache 2.2.9 is quite out of date and we will encourage you to
upgrade, seeing as you are using prefork chances are you are using mod_php
or similar third party module which could be indeed the real cause for
these crashes you mention.

In any case, without any core or debugging data, all the information we can
give you is wishful thinking.

So please provide more in-depth information about the crashes, and if you
are using third party modules, make sure first that those are not the cause
of it.
