Yes, using 1.4.2 fixes the problem. I knew about the other issue but didn't think it would apply here since I am using just one thread of execution and there are no synchronization issues involved. But apparently that fix resolves this problem as well.
I am eagerly waiting the release of 1.4.2 since our product which is based on Jackrabbit is scheduled to be released in 2 weeks.
