One point to note is that, I am trying to access the Kafka broker (located in 
Amazon Cloud, EC2 instance) from the Eclipse (located in my office). I am using 
Kafka from the trunk .

That explains why your producer hits connection timeout. Not sure why the 
controller to broker connection also times out though, if you can manually 
establish the connection.
